We first met Alex on safari in Kenya. His enthusiasm for the natural world was infectious and so when we decided to take 19 clients to Namibia he was the natural choice.

His attention to detail was superb in arranging an itinerary that fit our brief of ‘all about the wildlife in very good accommodation.’ Alex encouraged us to put on extensions to the main 10 day trip. Clients could opt in or out of, which worked out exceptionally well. Although it sounded a lot of work initially, each client had the opportunity to ‘build their own trip’ . Logistics for each person was tailored and then carried through to perfection.

Payment was straightforward bank transfer and clients felt reassured that Alex who has been in the industry for many years wasn’t about to do a runner with their funds!

Our customers were passionate about wildlife watching

Furthermore they love a good 5 star lodge, they would only select this if the wildlife was the main focus. Alex managed to organise an itinerary for us that addressed all our needs. It came up with a couple of places that were very quirky and a joy to stay in, like our extension to see the Desert Elephants.

Our clients wanted to be out at 5.30am and return for a quick light lunch and then be back out again until sunset. Certainly to maximise the time spent out on safari. Alex co-ordinated the hire of 5 land rovers and led us in convoy throughout the trip. Although we have self-drived in Namibia as a couple on two occasions, when you are leading a group you have an  extra level responsibility. Paparticularly if you unfortunate and something goes wrong.

We had several clients in their 70s who had had recent medical problems. We also had two single ladies to make sure they felt and kept safe. But nevertheless those more intrepid of our clients really felt that they ‘drove’ themselves. They had the fun of learning to drive and guide themselves under the safe umbrella of Robert and Alex’s guidance.

Alex is incredibly knowledgeable

About wildlife he understands the needs of photographers, especially in connection to positioning for light and forward thinking where the wildlife will move to next. He also has a vast knowledge of local history and customs, which after the serious issue of wildlife photography is done, makes for great conversations over dinner.

We had incredible wildlife watching. We always were positioned in the right place at the right time. But in addition to long days out in the field Alex arranged a couple of surprises for our clients including a secret evening ‘braai’ deep in the desert. He had convinced the group that they were going to see a rare ‘white elephant.’

As with any trip there were a few mishaps. One client’s key to her safe wouldn’t work. Her passport, money and valuables were stuck in there and we were leaving by private charter plane in an hour’s time. In Africa staff often work to their own timetables and nothing is done in a rush. We were therefore mightly impressed to learn that Alex had organised someone to come and ‘angle-grind’ the safe open. Importantly our client was amazed! Alex remained calm throughout.

My photo safari feedback: Alex has looked after us so well. Nothing was too much trouble, we had a really good laugh and most importantly he kept our group safe throughout. In conclusion I would thoroughly recommend Alexander Rostocil to your group. He will certainly organise, guide and lead a very successful trip for you.
